How we work

At the Nunavut Branch of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA-NU), we carry out the vision and mission of the CBA in Nunavut.

A group of business professionals engaged in a meeting around a conference table, discussing strategies and ideas.

The Nunavut Branch is governed by a Board of Directors, with its executive appointed to limited terms by the members of the branch at the annual general meeting held in October of each year. Both the Past Branch President and the Nunavut Representative Member on the CBA National Board sit on the Nunavut Branch’s Executive.

The CBA-NU is entirely run by volunteers who are practitioners in the territory. The CBA-NU’s branch bylaws and policies, along with the bylaws of the CBA, govern our work.

National governance

Our national association is governed by a President, supported by a 15-member Board of Directors. The National Board represents the diversity of Canada’s legal profession, including practice types, experience, skills, geography and more. All provinces and territories have a seat at the table. CBA Board members are elected by the current Board of Directors, Branch presidents and National Section chairs.

Each member serves a two-year term. Board member terms are staggered so only some of the Board change each year.
